Gifted, Able and Talented focus group information..

Thanks to all members of the Gifted and Talented Focus Group!

This year the group have focused on understanding what being Gifted in PE and Talented in Sport really means and how we can identify and support these students as early as possible. The group have worked on developing an initial unit of work for Year 7 students to work on in the first term from September - October. The unit is based on the 5 capabilities in PE, not just the physical performance.

The unit has finally been completed and is ready for use in September.

To access the lesson plans and resources click here. To assess these resources you must be a member on the website. To do this simply click on the 'sign in' and complete the on screen application form.

Within the unit all lesson plans and student assessment profiles provide opportunity for self assessment, peer assessment and teacher assessment.

56 Young people from 7 of our partnership secondary schools attended a day of workshops at Marjon.

The focus for the day was 4 of the 5 capabilities and undertake activities that they would not normally do in PE at school. All the participants got the opportunity to going to the sports science lab tested their flexibility, strength/ power and body composition. Other opportunity included using the speed lazers,  speed parachutes, dartfish for analysis, speed, agility and quickness.

From the workshop all students will recieve a profile so schools can focus any further support in areas that require further work and development.

All workshops were delivered and assessed by 2nd Year trainee students from Plymouth Marjon. The standard of delivery was outstanding and certainly gave all young people an excellent educational experience of there own ability. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the partnership to thank all staff and trainees from Marjon that were involved in the event.

All profile will be sent to Jo Ricks in the first instance and forwarded to members of staff for each school.
