County Athlete Assessment Day |
The first County Athlete Assessment Day in Devon took place on Tuesday 16th March at Brickfields Athletics Track and Plymouth Albion Rugby Club. The CAADC is a continuation of the Playground to Podium initiative that was started in Plymouth back in January of this year. From the P2P event were taken the top performing athletes to go to the CAADC where they took part in Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Football and Athletics. The Day was run by Active Devon and each activity was attended by the National Governing Body for that sport. 40 Athletes attended the day from a mixture of Plymstock and Sir John Hunt SSP Schools. Sascha Kindred, the Paralympic Swimming Gold Medallist from the Paralympic Games in Beijing opened the day and gave an inspirational speech just after lunch.
It was a great day and all who attended had a fantastic time. Some of the athletes have been identified to begin the road towards possible Olympic competition.
