Girls Active OAA Day - National Schools Sports Week
On Tuesday 30th June over 150 girls from across the partnership attended a fantastic day of fun activities based on and around the water at the Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club.
Joe Glanfield, Olympic Silver medallist in the 470 Sailing class was on hand to inspire and motivate the girls to have a go at sports such as Gig Rowing, Kayaking and Bellboating. The day was a great success with everyone trying something new and challenging themselves in many ways.
We were also lucky to have Robyn Pearcey the current British Female Champion Surf Kayaker with us for the day to demonstrate some kayak moves and run a master class.
The day was supported by Lloyds TSB as part of National School Sports Week - and looks set to become an annual event with Monday 21st June 2010 being the next likely outdoors day.
If you would be interested in getting involved in this day (taking part or providing an activity), then please contact Emma Goolden - SSCo for Plymouth High School for Girls on 07864 701684 or email egoolden@phsg.org.
Bikeability Opportunities for Year 7's at PHSG
Plymstock SSP were lucky enough to secure funding for 862 Year 6 and 7 students to complete their Level 2 Bikeability certificates. Currently approximately half of PHSG's Year 7's have completed the training - which leaves the rest of you to take up this fantastic opportunity.
The Bikeability Level 2 course teaches you how to ride your bike safely on the roads, it will help to build your confidence when travelling on minor roads, crossing roundabouts and negotiating junctions. You will gain a nationally recognised certificate that is valid for as long as you ride your bike, so is well worth doing!
If you are interested in completing your Level 2 Bikeability certificate during the summer term then find Miss Felton or Mrs Goolden to add your name to the list for the next course which will happen before the end of the Summer term. It's free and all equipment is provided, you just need to be able to ride a bike.
This opportunity is for Year 7's only, so be quick, as it'll be too late once you're in Year 8!!
