Change 4 Life Sessions go down a storm with Yr7 Girls

2nd March 11

As part of an introduction to different sports and to encourage girls who are less likely to take part in activity Mrs Lilley organised a block of 6 sessions to allow the girls to have a go at a variety of activities. The peer group was selected from Year 7 and each week they had the opportunity to try out something new, from mini golf, to x-biking, to team building.

At the start they were very nervous and said very little to one another but by the end of the 6 weeks, they had really come out of their shells and bonded well as a group. The sessions were also designed to help raise confidence and awareness of what they were able to do.

Here are some of the comments from the students:

"The sessions were absolutely amazing and I loved all of them. I might start trampolining now"

"The sessions were good fun and I really enjoyed X-biking because I had never done it before"

"I like all the sessions because I learnt something different"

This comment will be fed back to the PE department as it is always important to listen to student voice:

"If I had to change anything about PE is would be not having higher and lower sets as it makes me feel that I'm rubbish as I'm in the lower group"

10 more students will now be selected to take part in a series of 3 sessions at MARJONS aimed at introducing ideas to help them enjoy taking part in physical activity and nutrition.
