PAAC Planning and Evaluation Day 2010
This is this most important date of the year for PAAC PLT's. During the day we review our work and set dates and targets for the following year.
For the first time PE HOD's from Coombe Dean and Plymstock Schools will be invited to attend.

Girls Football Festival
This Festival has become a firm favourite with both staff and pupils. The combination of a morning spent working on skills and drills and an afternoon of competition is a very successful one.
This was an inter-family event with girls from the Plymstock and Plympton Family's of Schools working together. The coaching was lead by coaches working for Plymstock Football Development assisted by yr 10 Football Leaders from Plymstock School. Thank you to Chris French for organising this.
One aim of this Festival was to act as transition event, giving the girls the opportunity to meet with girls from other local schools and to help them with the transition from primary to secondary school in September. Whilst initially nervous and shy of each other the teams soon gelled and new friendships were soon made.
By mixing teams the schools which didn't have enough players for a full squad were still able to participate and all involved agreed the format of the event is excellent.
The competition was won by a team calling themselves 'The Champions' - a brilliant bit of positive thinking and show of confidence by the girls (they choose their team name as part of the team building process).
An excellent day helped by the best weather of the year so far!
Bikeability @ Coombe Dean School
Bikeability
For the second year running a group of year 7 students have just successfully completed the Level Two Bikeability Award. This nationally accreditated cycling scheme is a modern version of the Cycle Proficiency Awards. The Bikeability training involves going out on roads and learning the National Standard Skills for Cycling. To achieve the Level 2 Award the students have to demonstrate their ability to start and stop a journey safely, to be able to hold a good road position as well as show they can negotiate left and right turns to and from major roads to minor roads safely.
On the first day the group spent a short time demonstrating their ability to ride competently within the safety of the school basketball court area. The course then moved out to local roads and this group of students soon proved themselves to be capable and confident cyclists and they really enjoyed the two days of cycling. They found learning by being on the roads and using the junctions they would have to use if cycling into school to be of great benefit and by the middle of Day 2 they were tackling the busy turns into and out of Charnhill Way confidently and most importantly safely!
It is this ‘doing it for real' in a controlled yet live situation that makes Bikeability such a beneficial scheme. The students admit they are more likely to remember their skills and drills when they start cycling by themselves because of the way the course is structured.

Leap Into Life Festival
Leaping Into Life at Coombe Dean
Children as young as Four were delighted to come to Coombe Dean to take part in the first ever Plymstock Area Academic Council (PAAC) Leap Into life Festival. The children in Foundation and Year 1 from our local Primary Schools took part in a morning of fun activities led, very capably, by our year 8 Young Leaders. The activities were based on the Leap Into Life Scheme: This scheme has been developed for Early Years Education and is designed to develop a childs Physical Literacy. It involves having fun whilst developing their running, jumping, twisting, turning, pushing and pulling skills!
Our Year 8 students did a brilliant job of keeping 60 very excited 4, 5 & 6 year olds busy for two hours! They drew on every bit of their Young Leaders training to ensure all the children experienced a fun, fair and safe session. The Primary Schools staff were impressed with the way our students dealt with the younger children who proved to be quite challenging to organise.
The young children all went back to their School's with smiles on their faces and reward stickers on their chests having had an excellent introduction to Coombe Dean School thanks to our Leaders.

March update
Wow! What a busy few weeks for PAAC Schools. There have been numerous events happening within PAAC:
High 5 Netball league
We have just finished this league , which has been held over three weeks at Plymstock School, and the standard of play has been excellent and the results very close.
The first week was postpone d due to poor weather and it was bitterly cold for week two but the sun shone for the final week and allowed for some exciting matches and excellent scoring.
In the ‘ A' League the top two teams could not be split even on points difference so Hooe and Oreston Primary Schools were declared joint winners of the League. Hooe B Team also won the ‘B' League.
Thank you to the students from Coombe Dean School, Devonport High School for Girls and Plymouth University who helped with the umpiring of this event. An excellent example of schools co-operating and working together across the partnership.
Multi Skills Festival for Year 1 & 2
Plymstock School hosted the yr 1/2 Multi Skills with great success. The event was based on activities from the Active Play resource pack. The yr 1 & 2 pupils took part in a range of activities designed to improve their Agility, Balance, Co-ordination and Speed. Click here to see details of stations.
The event was run by Year 8 Leaders from Plymstock School and they did a really good job of motivating and encouraging the younger children.
Multi Skills Festival for Year 3 & 4
Coombe Dean School was the host for the year 3 & 4 Festival and this time the Year 11 Level 1 SportsLeaders were running the event as part of their assessment for the Level 1 Award.
This Festival was the same as the year 1 & 2 event with the addition of a competitive element. For some of the stations the children were awarded points for their performance and the school with the most points were the winners. Click here for schools score sheet
This event was a huge success with the Year 11 Level 1 Sports Leaders excelling in their role. They all worked tirelessly to keep the activities fun and enjoyable for the younger pupils.
Still to come over the next two weeks: PAAC Basketball Festival and PAAC Netball Festival
