Plymstock school meets olympic champions!!

10th March 10

On Tuesday 9th March 2010 Plymstock School students, staff and myself had the pleasure of meeting the 50metre Front Crawl World Record Holder Mark Foster, who has taken part in 5 different olympic games and has also been on the popular television show Strictly Come Dancing. To add to this, we also had the pleasure of meeting the Olympic Bronze Medalist Steve Parry!

Both Mark and Steve gave an inspirational talk to our Year Sevens about their own experiences in swimming and concluded his discussion with pupils by speaking about their own personal achievements and the Olympic Games, which was followed by a question and answer session.

As most of you know Plymstock has recently gained a temporary swimming pool which has given all of our students across the partnership the opportunity to have swimming as part of their Physical Education lessons, have some fun and most importantly give the non-swimmers the choice and opportunity to learn this life skill.

Both the year sevens and staff thoroughly enjoyed the assembly taken by the Olympic Champions yesterday and helped alot of us grasp the 'give it a go' attitude! As a result of this Mark and Steve gave one of our year sevens the confidence to come forward and tell us she was a non-swimmer and would like the opportunity to learn! =]

The pool is there for all to use, and once again a massive thank you to Mark and Steve!

There will be posters up around the Plymstock partnership schools to advertise this. The course is free of charge to students and teachers with the idea of developing your new skills and providing other students in your school with atleast ten hours worth of Hip Hop dance in a club lead by yourselves!

If you are interested in taking part in this exciting opportunity please speak to the member of staff stated on the posters around your school!

As well as being trained up in specific Hip Hop dance on 28th september at Plymstock school we have U.dance trainers coming in to provide us with a course. Unlike the Hip Hop course this course is specifically targeted to staff as there are age limits.
