Cheerleading

Interest in cheerleading has never been so strong. As part of the Community Coaches project we are able to offer Schools and Community groups the chance to experience the excitement of being involved in this exciting and engaging sporting activity.

Cheerleading is both accessible and inclusive; it is able to offer opportunities to all ages and abilities whilst also promoting an active and balanced lifestyle.

Through this programme pupils will be taught the basics of cheerleading, incorporating dance and choreography, vocal expressions, jumps and stunts, and also elements of fitness. The latter focussing on stamina, strength and flexibility in a fun game based environment.

If desired groups may also focus on the British Gymnastics Cheerleading Spirit Awards. These awards are a popular way of motivating and rewarding the cheerleader and can form the starting point for setting up and running a recreational cheerleading club. The awards are directly linked to the National Curriculum and promote aspects of team based cheerleading.  Click here to access the Cheerleading Sprit Awards information leaflet.

So if you are looking for something new and exciting, or just wish to add some variety to the physical exercise opportunities you provide, why not give cheerleading a try!

 Trampolining

In recent years with the rise in popularity of household trampolines, this is an activity that many are increasingly wishing to take part in.

This activity is available to any School or Community group that has access to regulation Trampolines.

Sessions may be run as part of a curricular programme or as an afterschool/community club. Alternativly ‘one off’ sessions are also offered should you be involved in running healthy living/activity weeks or would just like to offer an exciting activity to your groups.

Multi- Skills

Multi-skills activities are designed around the basis of fundamental movement patterns deemed essential in all physical activities. These are often refereed to as the A, B, C, ‘S, or Agility, Balance, Co-ordination and Speed. Through the delivery of a multi-skills Programme pupils will experience numerous non- sports specific activities and challenges to improve their basic and fundamental sports skills in an enjoyable setting.

A Multi-Skills club can form part of a schools out of school hours learning programme and support the key stage attainment targets in primary school curricular Physical Education. The clubs can help to provide an extension of curricular PE and provide further enrichment of skill development. Multi-skill Clubs should be the stepping stone from high quality physical education in schools to high quality club environments.

GYMNASTICS

Through Plymstock SSP you are able to access gymnastics coaching. This is available during curriculum time where sessions will be delivered by a fully qualified member of the Plymstock SSP Coaching Team. If applicable Staff may specify any aspects of gymnastics they would like support in, or if relevant advise the coaching team which units of work in gymnastics the class should be working towards. Alternatively a broad spectrum of gymnastic activities can be delivered as a unit of work.

KEY STEP GYMNASTICS

In addition the Key Step Gymnastics Programme can be provided.  This Programme is suitable for Key Stage 1 upwards and can also be used to introduce a progressive competition structure in basic movement and agility.

The Key Step Programme supports the development of core tasks in the QCA gymnastics units of work and develops the use of the core skills and agilities in the BG Proficiency Award Schemes, thus offering extra challenges and performance opportunities for gymnastics in extra curricular settings or as a means of enriching curriculum gymnastics.

AEROBICS

Aerobics for Children is an exciting, innovative way to encourage them to be more active.  Children naturally have loads of energy, and this form of movement helps them channel their instinct to move in a productive and fun way.

Beginning with a warm up, pupils are led through a range of movements helping to develop co-ordination and social interaction. Children are encouraged to develop a sense of rhythm and reproduce and adapt basic footwork patterns. By the end of a unit/session children are encouraged to be able to create short sequences of movement that can be repeated and reproduced in order to keep active.

These aerobic sessions may also be delivered to adults in the community setting and will be adapted accordingly to suit the needs of the clients involved.

 YOGA

There are many reported health benefits of yoga. You now have the opportunity to access a yoga programme especially designed for use in the School environment.

The programme helps encourage children to enjoy exercising showing that not all exercise needs to be at maximal intensity. This exercise programme combines the practical aspects of yoga with facts and information about how the body works and how we can maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The programme is an excellent tool for enhancing not only concentration but also introduces aspects of flexibility, posture, control, and body awareness.  The programme begins with teaching the physical aspect of yoga and progresses to teach pupils how to relax and encourages them to try and notice the difference in how the body feels when in a state of relaxation.
